As a mum, I’m always looking for creative ways to keep my little ones entertained—especially when it’s something sensory, safe, and (bonus!) a bit tasty. That’s why we’re loving this simple edible play dough recipe! It’s perfect for toddlers, worry-free if they sneak a taste, and a great rainy-day activity.
Whether you’re a crafty mum or just need a quick, mess-friendly idea, this DIY edible play dough is soft, squishy, and made from ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
⸻
✨ Why You’ll Love This Edible Play Dough • 100% safe if eaten (though it’s not meant to be a snack!)
• Super easy to make—only 3–4 ingredients!
• Customisable with colours and scents (try vanilla or cocoa!)
• Keeps little hands busy for ages
⸻
🧁 What You’ll Need:
• 1 cup of frosting (store-bought or homemade)
• 2 ¾ cups of powdered sugar (icing sugar)
• Food colouring (optional)
• A mixing bowl and spoon
⸻
🍬 How To Make It:
Add the frosting to a large mixing bowl.
2. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar, about ½ cup at a time.
3. Stir until a dough forms, then knead with your hands until it’s smooth and no longer sticky. You can add more sugar if needed.
4. Add food colouring for fun colours—just a few drops go a long way!
5. Ready to play! Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
⸻
💡 Mum Tips:
• Use gel food colouring for brighter, bolder colours.
• Add a splash of vanilla or almond extract for a sweet smell.
• If it’s too sticky, keep adding powdered sugar a spoonful at a time.
• Keep it in the fridge to make it last longer!
⸻
🎨 Play Ideas:
• Roll it out and use cookie cutters
• Make pretend cupcakes or doughnuts
• Create colourful creatures or letters
This edible play dough has become a regular favourite in our house—especially on those days when energy is high and attention spans are short. It’s a fun, safe, and sensory-rich activity that both my girls love (and I secretly do too!).
